There was a Netflix series that ran years ago called “Ugly Delicious”
The premise was finding foods in different cultures that are truly delicious but are, perhaps, “ugly” in appearance. Whatever you may think about the host David Chang, I really liked this approach to shine a light on foods and dishes that may not get the appreciation they deserve. As a chef in high end kitchens you are taught from the beginning that aesthetics matter and you eat with your eyes first.
But what about recipes that you sit on the couch, alone, and indulge in when you aren’t trying to impress people?
Below is one of my favorite “ugly delicious” meals that I have loved since moving to Asia and I want to share it with you now.
It’s a “one pot” meal, easy to make and you can get all the ingredients pretty much all over the world making this a perfect way to bring Cantonese comfort food into your home.
I guarantee this one will be on repeat for you… whether you need a quick weeknight meal, or just an effortless home cooked meal that feels like a big hug.
Enjoy
