I hope your 4th of July 🇺🇸 was fun, tasty and delicious.
If you’re new to this ‘stack go back as I dropped 4 recipe newsletters back-to-back(x2) with summer festive recipes for the 4th of July holiday, then gave everyone a break to recover this last week.
Recently I’ve been pulling previous years recipes in the monthly reviews so they don’t get forgotten since there are so many recipes now.
Here’s what you may have missed in June from around the world of Cooking with Octopod
Hemingway Burgers & His Daq
I’ve recently discovered that Hemingway was quite the gourmand BITD. I was aware of the famous Hemingway Daquiri (which I love for the no-sugar-added, boozey citrus qualities) and then found this unique burger recipe that I shared to end the month.
It’s a great riff on the Trad burger to try… highly recommend!
Hemingway Burgers 🍔 & His Daiquiri
I’ve been a fan of Hemingway’s writing for a long time but just recently learned of his love for good food. That has sent me down a rabbit hole which started with beef tartare, his wine collection at Club 21 in NYC, his love of game meat (esp raw lion meat) and now, finding his preferred burger recipe.
Summer Dill Pickles
These are not your run-of-the-mill dill pickled cucumbers.
This recipe uses fresh, in season, summer zucchini. Cut into spears and I give you the trick for making sure your pickles aren’t mushy 🙌
A sleeper recipe not to be missed!
Most Underrated Kitchen Gadget
I’m not a gadget guy but this tool is a must-have IMO and few people think of it.
It’s also Prime-Day right now so I’m sure there’s a discount!
Most Underrated Kitchen Gadget
It’s no secret I’m a pretty hardcore minimalist when it comes to kitchen tools. If you’re an active home cook then you’re well aware of the constant onslaught of new products and infomercials pushing the “latest” and “greatest” convenience gadgets for your kitchen.
Hong Kong Scrambled Eggs
From my latest excursion to Asia, it was high time I featured one of my favorite breakfasts in the world… Hong Kong scrambled eggs.
I walk you through THE place to get this in HK and also a recipe to try at home.
‘Well Done’ Rare Steak
As summer is here, nothing slaps quite like a good steak tartare and this adaptation is from the legendary 21 Club in NYC.
'Well Done', Raw Steak
I got roasted for putting out a Father’s Day menu that wasn’t beef-centric 😂 Dropping this post on Steak Tartare as you could easily add this to your spread and get some beefy-goodness without breaking a sweat this weekend 🙌 Most people tense-up or cringe when the subject of raw meat is brought up.
Rounding out the month I posted a full menu with past recipes for Father’s Day that can be made anytime this summer for a serious feast as well as the best recipe ever for chocolate cream pie 🤤
Chocolate Cream Pie
Nothing hits quite as hard as a perfectly made chocolate cream pie. Ideally the filling is thick and luscious, lump-free, and presents as silk on the palate as you eat. Lightly whipped cream further enriches the pie while adding a contrast to the deep chocolate filling.
A legendary a tasty June for Cooking with Octopod all around… here’s some past June recipes you don’t want to forget:
