There’s few things better than dropping down an epic dessert for frens and family that has people applauding, but took you very little cooking time. 🙌
This pie has been a favorite since childhood and for whatever reason usually gets made around Christmas time.
The pie itself doesn’t need to be baked and can be prepped a day before and then finished right before serving. Further, you probably have most (if not all) of the ingredients on hand. A really efficient recipe to have in your toolbox to pull out during the hustle and bustle of the holidays.
I’m talking about:
The name is pretty self explanatory.
Banana 🍌 + Toffee
I’d go a step farther though and say that this particular flavor combination is flavor alchemy.
The banana and toffee are a perfect marriage, sitting in a butter graham cracker crust and adorned with billows of barely sweetened cream make for a heavenly bite.
Many recipes for this I’ve come across are too sweet. That’s the trick with this. Banana and toffee are naturally sweet so if you load up the cream with sugar it’s just cloying and not pleasant IMO.
The cream is there to add a richness and by adding just a hint of sugar it balances the toffee and banana sweetness.
If there’s any nit-picking in this recipe it’s just the making of the toffee which is simple enough but you want to make sure you take the toffee far enough to maximize the flavor.
Crumbling a Cadbury Flake bar to garnish the cream topping is in my book mandatory. But you can shave a piece of chocolate on a microplane over in a pinch.
I recommend this for a Christmas Dinner dessert or take to any holiday party and you’ll for sure get rave reviews.
I actually served this as a dessert option after Thanksgiving dinner (along with a wonderful apple pie). My uncle was pretty hesitant to try the Banoffee Pie but after having seconds, requesting the recipe and taking some to his wife as leftovers, he was fully converted.
Many such cases!
