Turkey day is approaching in less than 1 week!
This will be my first Thanksgiving out of the USA in a very long time and it looks like it will be a very Canto-Thanksgiving with roast goose and bbq pork (char siu) on the menu this year with possibly some brisket noodles 🤤
On a personal note my parents have arrived in Asia to spend some time with me so it has been wonderful to be face-to-face after more than a year apart!
Turkey Day Plans!
First things first: comment below on your favorite Thanksgiving dishes or any nostalgic dishes important to your family.
Having a strong Southern ancestry in my family, congealed salads would usually make an annual appearance on Thanksgiving, as well as chestnut stuffing, cornbread and sausage dressing, gravy with fresh herbs, mountains of mashed potatoes and we often would do Green Beans Viennese instead of the trad fried onion topped casserole, homemade cranberries with orange and grand marnier all serve to support the main event of a beautifully roasted turkey.
“The” pumpkin pie recipe and also pumpkin cheesecake with bourbon whipped cream are religion in my family now 😂
Hungry yet?
I’m going to link below all of the Thanksgiving recipes I’ve previously posted so that this truly is a one-stop shop for you to get everything lined up and not pulled into a million directions.
I will also drop a new recipe or two this week that you can add to your Thanksgiving feast plans if desired.
Proteins:
Thanksgiving Turkey w/Chestnut Stuffing: This is a classic and the resulting chestnut stuffing that comes out of the turkey cavity post-roast is truly indulgent. This is worth the effort.
Roast Turkey Breast: For smaller gatherings or if you like white meat and just want something easy, skip the whole bird and use the smart technique that is no fuss and fast!
Sides:
Turkey Day Mashed Potatoes: Are you melting butter for your mashed potatoes? This recipe will have you not melting butter and enjoying the results 🤤
Real Deal Gravy: Make your turkey stock the day before with turkey wings and then whip up your gravy in 10 mins while your roast turkey rests the day of!
Harvard Beets: This is a Southern recipe but two things make this worth considering for Thanksgiving: 1) Harvard beets are delicious, and have converted many “non-beet” people, 2) They are stupid easy to make which makes them a no brainer for a Thanksgiving side.
Cauliflower & Cheese: You can make this using a microwave in about 5 mins in a casserole dish. Use if needing a tasty side dish that oozes with cheese and is craveable.
Green Beans Viennese: These creamy green beans carry a healthy dose of dill that is such a nice contrast and so tasty; also, low prep and time to make!
Real Cranberry Sauce: I have a nostalgic place for the canned jelly but once you make this cranberry sauce that’s spiked with some mild warming spices, citrus and grand marnier… there’s no going back. Also makes the best leftover turkey sandwich after mayo has been spread on the bread.
Pear Relish: Pears are in season. I adore pears. Make this zesty relish as a side to serve with roast turkey and also pairs fabulous with duck and pork.
Desserts:
Pumpkin Pie w/Bourbon Whip: This is the only pumpkin I ever make anymore. It’s just pointless to use other recipes. Family and friends agree. It’s mandatory every Thanksgiving.
Pumpkin Cheesecake: If you can make both pie and cheesecake, do that. 😉 This cheesecake is like velvet and full of big pumpkin flavor and warming spice.
Drop any questions below and remember to comment on your family-favorite thanksgiving recipes and traditions!
Next recipe dropping tomorrow!
